Because well can also act as an adjective, it’s also fine to answer “I’m well,” but some grammarians believe “I’m well” should be used to talk about your health and not your general disposition.

Stesso discorso di “I’m fine”, no? può essere sia avverbio sia aggettivo. E’ sempre divertente osservare come i madrelingua si pongano problemi su cose che a noi parlanti L2 non creano difficoltà; e viceversa: cose ovvie per un parlante nativo non lo sono per noi. Forse è perché nella lingua madre a volte si sa d’istinto come usare le parole, ma non si è mai studiata a memoria la regola. (Comunque è vero, anche a me “I’m well” sembra riguardare la salute e non l’umore generale.)
